Happy Holidays from Stormwater

By: Kaspersen, Janice: Stormwater Editor Comments

This week much of the world is getting a closeup look at stormwater in some form or other—here in California we’re getting record-setting rains, many of you in other parts of the country are deep in snow, and as I write this several airports in Europe are still virtually shut down by the weather.

A few things to track in the new year:

* The results of the 2010 census might redefine some federally designated urbanized areas, affecting NPDES Phase II permitting.

* The federal effluent limitation guidelines for construction sites, which set numeric limits for turbidity, are in the process of being revised. See this editorial from Erosion Control magazine for more information.

* EPA is working on revisions to water-quality criteria for recreational waters

* Stormwater requirements for the Chesapeake Bay watershed are being strengthened; what happens in this region could potentially set precedent for other areas of the country.

What’s on your list for 2011?

Forester Media’s offices will be closed next week. Happy holidays to all who are celebrating and safe travels to those who are venturing out.
